Setup & repairs

Setup &
repairs.

From routine adjustment to recovering a damaged instrument. First we understand the problem; then we decide how far to go and how to intervene.

Playability

A setup is not just “lowering the strings”.

It is finding the right balance between player, instrument, tuning, strings, technique and reliability.

Complete setup

Neck relief, action, nut, intonation, pickup height, bridge and an overall stability check.

Nut and saddles

Correction or custom manufacture to improve comfort, tuning, intonation and vibration transfer.

Bridges and tremolos

Floyd Rose, two-point systems, vintage tremolos, Tune-o-matic, acoustic bridges and floating systems.

Tuning problems

Diagnosis of friction, geometry, tuners, nut, strings, bridge and stringing technique.

Buzzes and dead notes

Finding the actual cause: frets, relief, twists, resonances, hardware or setup compromises.

Setup around the player

A setup tailored to pick or fingerstyle, bending, slide, drop tunings, heavy strings or live use.

Frets and neck

You can feel precision under your fingers.

Fret levelling

Levelling, recrowning and polishing when the available fret material and fingerboard condition allow it.

Refret

Partial or complete, with a considered choice of material, size, radius and final dressing.

Stainless-steel refret

For greater durability and precision, after assessing compatibility, cost and real benefit for the instrument.

Deformed necks

Assessment of twists, humps, movement, truss-rod problems and possible conservative or structural solutions.

Fingerboards and binding

Restoration, correction, gluing and work attentive to the original aesthetics.

Truss rod

Diagnosis of operation, noise, travel limits or failure, with work proportionate to the neck structure.

Electronics and pickups

More possibilities, less noise, no random wiring.

Installations and modifications are designed around tone, practicality and reversibility where required.

Pickup replacement

Selection, installation, adjustment and balance checks between positions.

Custom wiring

Coil split, series/parallel, phase, treble bleed, blender, push-pull, push-push and special configurations.

Shielding and grounding

Reduction of hum and interference through correct diagnosis, not simple patches.

Pots and switches

Replacement, cleaning, value selection and verification of the circuit’s actual response.

Amplified acoustics

Installation and optimisation of magnetic pickups, piezos, internal microphones and combined systems.

Diagnosis

Intermittent faults, volume loss, abnormal differences between pickups, touch noise and phase problems.

Repair and restoration

Save what matters.
Without erasing its history.

Broken headstocks

Gluing, reinforcement, reconstruction and cosmetic retouching according to severity and the instrument’s value.

Cracks and separations

Work on tops, sides, backs, bridges, braces and structural joints.

Conservative restoration

Functional recovery respecting materials, patina, historical value and reversibility.

Finishes and touch-ups

Localised repairs, polishing, corrections and an honest assessment of what can realistically be achieved.

Hardware and compatibility

Replacement of bridges, tuners, pickguards and components after checking dimensions and geometry.

Cost–benefit assessment

Not every repair makes economic sense: the priority is helping you decide clearly.

Collection and return

Cannot come to the workshop? No problem.

I arrange collection of your instrument by courier. After assessment, we agree the work; once completed, the instrument is tested, carefully packed and returned to your address.

Method

First identify the cause. Then intervene.

Photos and a description are a good starting point. The workbench assessment establishes the cause, priorities, alternatives and cost.

01

Describe the problem

What happens, since when and under which conditions.

02

Technical assessment

Checks, measurements and verification of the causes.

03

Proposal

Recommended work, alternatives and priorities.

04

Testing and return

Final checks, packing and return of the instrument.

Bring me the problem

Noise, high action, worn frets, temperamental electronics or a nasty break?
